Healthcare
Big Data-based research conducted in the field of healthcare seeks answers to the following questions:
- Is it possible to use healthcare funds more effectively in cases of diseases with increased risk of death?
- Is there a subsystem that can indicate potential exit strategies?
The research identifies anomalies in funding and medical care in the diagnostics and care of colon cancer through patients’ pathways generated from financing data of the National Health Insurance Fund of Hungary (NEAK) and through expert interviews. By using interdisciplinary analyses (Big Data analyses, in-depth medical interviews, cost-benefit analyses and sociological impact studies), the research aims at a more pragmatic approach to patients’ pathways with diseases with increased risk of death. The research focuses on the discovery and analysis of diagnostic and care anomalies.
Research also covers the domestic treatment of heart attack victims and their treatment, and the potential of data-based improvements for patient survival through patients’ pathway analysis.
Enviromind
A Big Data-based environmental monitoring system has been set up, and within the framework of KRAFT, a pilot project was conducted, whereby a scalable monitoring system was developed that enables flexibly expandable data input and real-time data processing to the widest circle of users by focusing on diverse environmental problems. These problems include illegal landfills, diverse air pollution impacts, etc., that can be recorded through reports by the public. This could enable decision-makers to find more rapid and effective solutions. This supports urban planning and contributes to social well-being. The three major components of the system include a platform for quick and easy registration of public reports (via mobile and desktop devices); the framing of environmental sensors that register data from automated measurements (e.g. basic weather data including temperature, wind speed, wind direction or noise measuring devices that help to identify the source and type of problem); a dashboard platform where reports from particular settlements can be retrieved and traced in terms of space and time (according to the type and nature of the problem and scale of the specific problem).
