Elemér Hankiss’s achievements in the transdisciplinary study of society and civilizational change are closely in line with the research activities at the Institute of Advanced Studies Kőszeg. The Hankiss Archives, located in the renewed Festetics Palace, was established with the aim of preserving and making accessible to the wider public the intellectual heritage of Elemér Hankiss, and thus to foster the research projects at the Institute which are being carried out at the interface of the humanities, natural and social sciences. The collection of the Archives covers two main areas: (1) the archival records of the iASK’s predecessor and partner institutions, and (2) personal bequests that have been donated to the Archives. Among the latter, the main collection is that of Elemér Hankiss (1928-2015), the philosopher, sociologist and literary historian, who gave his name to the Archives (manuscripts, notes, letters, audio tapes, etc.).
The Archives also houses the bequest of Klára Héderváry, a renowned Belgian UN diplomat of Hungarian origin. The Archives is constantly being developed and new records are regularly added to its holdings. In the near future, the personal records of the historian and politician György Schöpflin (1939-2021) are expected to become available for research at Festetics Palace.
Research in the Archives is available only by prior appointment at the Festetics palace (Chernel street 10).
