Case studies on European, national, regional, and local issues demonstrate that historical legacies shape the present. Politically motivated and consciously selective uses of the past weaken rather than strengthen the cohesion of smaller and larger social groups. The research aims to answer the questions of past, present and future exploitation of memory politics.
