More details about the book:
Kőszeg is a city of schools and historic buildings, a town whose geographical location, harmoniously built heritage, unique historical and civic traditions, and long-standing educational tradition make it the ideal foundation for a new kind of regional knowledge hub and art center.
After reconstruction and preservation from its derelict state, the Festetics Palace catapults whoever enters within its walls into a rapidly developing educational and cultural life. The Szemző House, with its restored bourgeois elegance, provides space for high-quality research as an intellectual workshop. Of the series of buildings successfully renovated, the innovative, modernist transformation of interiors within the medieval bastion of the age-old Zwinger is an outstanding example. At the same time, the Sgraffito House, the gem of Kőszeg has gone through a complete renewal via the restoration of its facade and the utilization of its attic. The imposing building of the Benedictine Convent can also be mentioned since as a result of renovation it has become an emblematic landmark of the city again.
While the damaged historic built heritage is gradually restored, scientific and cultural memories are also revived. This process has begun, and the successful development projects have brought about the rebirth of other spaces and buildings, together with their inhabitants, and local communities, Kőszeg is becoming a city of Talking Houses.
