iASK fellows, Anikó Magasházi and Péter Balogh took part on 19th October, 2017 at the “Looking back to the future 10 years Doctoral Schools @KU Leuven Conference” in Belgium. The old building of the university, where the education started almost 600 years ago, dates back to 1317 and is still used by students and researchers.
Reine Meylaerts, Vice Rector for Research Policy of the university emphasized in her welcome address, that doctoral schools need to take more and more into account the substantial changes in the external environment and bring in new “transdisciplinary” scientific approach. Doctoral students of the future need to find answers not only for forseeable events, but elaborate new scientific models for exceptional phenomena, as well. International examples exist only sporadically in this field. KU Leuven – as part of an international consortium – has recently won an ERASMUS + grant to collect international best practices of interdisciplinarity in doctoral studies.
