On the Verge of History. The Life Stories of Women from Serbia, Romania and Hungary, 1920-2020, by Izabella Agárdi researcher of the iASK, has been nominated for the MSA (Memory Studies Association) First Book Award and will be one of the ten best debut monographs in 2022, according to the international organization.
The author explores the underrepresented field of study in historiography, women’s experience, the female perspective narrative. The book examines interviews with women born between 1921 and 1934. The thirty interviewees come from three countries: Hungary, Serbia and Romania. The interviews were recorded between 2005 and 2008 and focus on life events under socialism. Through their personal stories, we get to know the stories of women who have lived through struggles and hardships. The author used ethnographic, psycholinguistic and narratological methods in her research. She carried out detailed analyses of the audio material collected.
