Judit Pump
Judit Pump (Hungary) is a lawyer (PhD, LLM environmental law), an honorary associate professor of Pázmány Péter Catholic University Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. She is one of the founding members of the Public Law Sub-Committee of IX. Section of Economics and Law of the Hungarian Academy of Science, and currently one of its vice presidents. She joined the LandSupport project in April. She worked for the Hungarian Ombudsman for Future Generations (HOFG) as a senior legal advisor (2013.02-2021.02). She was, as the occasion required, the leading expert or participated in elaborating several general opinions, open letters of concern, Amicus letters to the Constitutional Court, and legislative proposals of HOFG, regarding, but not limited to, the protection of soil, ground-water, air, forest biodiversity, Natura 2000 network, on regulatory regimes in the field of environmental law, environmental liability. Beyond the review of legislative tools, her analytical research covers decisions and decision making processes of the Hungarian Constitutional Court, other courts, public authorities, municipalities. Her research interest includes how interpretation and application of private law could promote sustainable development. She applies a combined approach of environmental law and consumer law for analysing the public utility sector mainly water, sanitation, and waste services, taking the interests of both sides (the service providers and users) into account.
She enjoys working with multidisciplinary, and international teams which stems from her wide range of working experience at different organisations since her graduation in 1985 (that ranges from being a social worker to labour lawyer at a construction company, project manager at civil organisations, civil servant preparing legislative proposals at the ministry responsible for consumer law, lecturer at higher educational institutions, expert in preparing harmonisation of EU laws). She has teaching experience at graduate and post-graduate level, teaching Hungarian and foreign students with various backgrounds (law, economics, engineers, education) in Hungarian and in English.
