László Kulcsár
Biography:
László I. Kulcsár Professor Emeritus at Sándor Lámfalussy Faculty of Economics, University of Sopron, Hungary. He received his university Master’s degree from the Eötvös Loránd University, Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, Budapest. Based on the scholarship of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, he got his Ph.D. Degree in Sociology on the sociological issues of modernization in rural Hungary, in 1987.
Between 1986 and 2010, he was the founder and head of the Department of Sociology and later of the Department of Rural Development, then the Institute of Rural Development and Extension at St. Stephen’s University (formerly Gödöllő University of Agriculture). Since 2010 he has been a professor at the University of Sopron (formerly the University of West Hungary) and program director at the István Széchenyi Doctoral School. His concentrations are the transition and development of rural areas and the changing demographic, social, cultural, and human resources related to these issues. From 1994 to 2006, he was a researcher in rural sociology projects at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) and the University of Wyoming (Laramie, WY). He has managed a rural research project on behalf of the FAO and has conducted numerous scientific researches in rural areas in the Carpathian Basin. Owner of the ‘Master Teacher’ title awarded by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office. Member of the editorial board of academic journals: “Területi Statisztika” (Territorial Statistics), “Gazdaság és Társadalom” (Economy and Society), “Regional Statistics,” and “Journal of Appalachian Studies.”
