Two commemorative columns were unveiled in K\u0151szeg in memory of the Jewish labor servicemen murdered in the spring of 1945. The initiative was taken by a private person, G\u00e1bor Vad\u00e1sz, a doctor, whose father and his twin brother lost their lives along with hundreds of others to the atrocities of German soldiers.<\/p>\n
One of the memorials, a marble plaque on a granite block of stone next to the former Brewery on L\u00e9kai road, and the other, a brick pillar next to the former Czeke Brick Factory, commemorate the memory of the compatriots who died there.The commemoration was attended by S\u00e1ndor M\u00e1rkus, President of the Jewish Community of Szombathely, Szabolcs Szita, historian and former director of the Holocaust Memorial Centre, Gy\u00f6rgy Frisch, former president of the N\u00dcB, J\u00e1nos Sz\u00e9kely, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Szombathely, Csaba Baranyai, Lutheran Pastor of K\u0151szeg and B\u00e9la B\u00e1sthy, Mayor of K\u0151szeg.<\/p>\n
The commemorative speeches recalled the atrocities committed in the former labor camp. In addition to the mourners “El mole rachamim” praying, excerpts from L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Tolnai’s book K\u0151szeg Terminus were read. At the end of the event, those present laid the stones of remembrance and lit the spirit candles.<\/p>\n
One of the organizers of the event was Edit Sz\u00e1nt\u00f3n\u00e9 Bal\u00e1zs, historian and researcher at the iASK.<\/p>\n
