\"RESILIENHANCE<\/h2>\n

Enhancing the Resilience to Disasters for Sustainable Development<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Friuli Venezia Giulia Region<\/a>, the\u00a0Central European Initiative<\/a>\u00a0and the UNESCO Chair on Intersectoral Safety for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience of the University of Udine have promoted the Resilienhance program in October. The program strives to implement a series of activities with the aim to connect diverse viewpoints, expertise, and knowledges of experts in different disciplines contributing to resilience in the times of uncertainty and multiple interlinked crises in the world.<\/p>\n

Natural disasters as well as manmade accidents require enhanced cooperation among different actors. Resilience is seen as a fundamental prerequisite for sustainable development and tackling the effects of climate change and other crises.<\/p>\n

In a complex, interconnected and increasingly digitalised world, disruptions are the new normal. The capacity to predict and adapt to changes is crucial. The\u00a0RESILIENHANCE program<\/a> recognises this major challenge and calls for intersectoral safety approach based on evaluation, anticipation and adaptation capabilities. It launches an expert platform to explore effective ways and means for strengthening territorial resilience to adverse events and critical situations in the context of complexity and systemic risk.<\/p>\n

The enhancement of resilience and safety allows societies to build a sustainable development characterized by a greater capacity to act proactively and to prevent and address future risks and crises.<\/p>\n

The RESILIENHANCE Platform provides a space that facilitates interdisciplinary and intersectoral exchanges on the different aspects concerning resilience to disasters. It fosters experts in discussing and proposing recommendations aiming at supporting risk-informed and resilient sustainable development.<\/p>\n

The Platform focuses mainly on the resilience to disaster risk, as central driver in managing the challenges posed by systemic risk, climate change, natural hazards, man-made threats, COVID-19 pandemic, and also by the increased complexity and uncertainty that will characterize the future. Thinking and acting proactively for reducing risks and for increasing the capacity to face and cope surprises and unprecedented situations is one of the main challenges in building an effective resilience enhancement. The activities of the platform will provide an interdisciplinary and intersectoral contribution in this direction.<\/p>\n

The Platform acts as a knowledge-sharing and knowledge-bridging tool. It operates with networks among scientists, policy-makers, and experts from CEI’s Member States, United Nations and European, and regional and local institutions.<\/p>\n

The launching event of the Resilienhance program was held in Udine on 24 and 25 October 2022 in the form of networking and experience sharing event (RESILabex<\/sup>\u00a0workshop). Director of iASK, Ferenc Miszlivetz, has participated in this event and is determined to contribute to the Platform through a series of actions, including the production of documents and initiation of regional projects.<\/p>\n

The main objective of the workshop was to put together expert recommendations for strengthening territorial resilience to adverse events and critical situations in the context of complexity and systemic risk. The goal is to create a regional platform aiming to enhance resilience for supporting the achievement of the 2030 Global Agenda.<\/p>\n

The workshop was hosted by the\u00a0International Centre for Mechanical Sciences (CISM)<\/a>.<\/p>\n
