The first episode of iASK podcast in English features Zsuzsanna M\u00e1rka, astrophysicist and researcher of the Columbia University who talked with Gergely T\u00f3th, Deputy-Director of iASK.<\/p>\n

During their conversation, Dr. Marka discussed her work studying cataclysmic cosmic explosions, including supernovae, colliding neutron stars, black holes, and the various “messengers” they produce, such as gravitational-waves, neutrinos, and electromagnetic radiation.\u00a0M\u00e1rka has made significant contributions to the field, including leading the development of the timing system for the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors, which played a key role in the detection of gravitational waves, a phenomenon predicted by Einstein over 100 years ago.<\/p>\n

In addition to her work on instrumentation, M\u00e1rka is also involved in research on \u00a0astrophysics, studying the connections between different cosmic messengers to better understand the processes at play in these cosmic events. She is a member of the Columbia Experimental Gravity group and the IceCube project, a massive neutrino detector located at the South Pole.<\/p>\n

Throughout her career, M\u00e1rka has published more than 300 scientific papers and has received over 75,000 citations, resulting in an h-index of 104.<\/p>\n
