Since August 2023 the iASK Art Center has been named after the pianist-composer George Vuk\u00e1n, who became a globally recognized pianist for his virtuoso playing both solo and as a member of ensembles. The specialty of his piano playing was the free improvisation technique. Vuk\u00e1n composed many music pieces including masses, film soundtracks and jazz concert pieces. His diversity is also reflected in his musical compositions. In addition, the excellent artist practiced as a dentist, caring for his patients on a daily basis.<\/div>\n

Although Vuk\u00e1n was born in 1941 in a hospital in Budapest , his family lived in the house at R\u00e1k\u00f3czi street 6 in K\u0151szeg at the time. His father, Ferenc Vuk\u00e1n, practiced as a chief Doctor in the K\u0151szeg hospital – K\u00f3rh\u00e1z street 7-, which was still operating at the time.<\/div>\n
We placed commemorative plaques designed by graphic designer P\u00e9ter Trifusz at both locations.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

George Vuk\u00e1n founded the Creative Art prize – held every two years – where young musicians showcase their talents and skills in creative piano improvisations. After Vuk\u00e1n’s loss, Zolt\u00e1n Krisk\u00f3 and our Institute’s researcher, K\u00e1roly Binder pianist manage his creative legacy. This summer we held the competition in K\u0151szeg for the fifth time and it was extra special as we were able to officially announce that the center is now named after George Vuk\u00e1n.<\/div>\n

In accordance with Vuk\u00e1n’s creative personality and outstanding spirit, our institution will offer high-quality research and related cultural events in the future. Izabella Sz\u00e1sz, the head of the George Vuk\u00e1n Creative Art Center, has been managing the cultural and educational programs of our Institute for many years, and as a singer she enriches many of our programs with her voice.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The patinated buildings of K\u0151szeg, renovated within the framework of the KRAFT project, provide an excellent location for our programs. One of the most significant of them is the spectacularly renovated Synagogue building at V\u00e1rk\u00f6r 38, which functions as a cultural space and offers a colorful program choice.<\/div>\n
